SPSE - Supporting Positive School Environments (SPSE) is a school-wide behavior management system based on the Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) Model. SPSE impacts the entire student body by establishing a school culture where positive behavior is expected, taught and acknowledged. SPSE can also be tailored to deal with problem areas specific to a particular school and to individual students through group interventions and individual support plans. It is a research-based and data-driven approach to behavior management.
Too Good For Drugs (TGFD) is a research-based prevention program proven to reduce students' use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. TGFD will be implemented in K-6 classrooms for 30-minutes once a week for ten weeks. There is also a take-home component for families to complete together.
Keep A Clear Mind (KACM) is a research-based take-home drug prevention program for 5th grade to be completed by parents and their children. The program includes 5 weekly lessons followed by bi-weekly parent newsletters for a total of 13 weeks. Lessons are designed to help children better communicate with parents about substance abuse and develop specific skills to avoid the use of “gateway” drugs.
Families and Schools Together (FAST) is a research-based after school program for entire families to come together once a week for eight weeks. Activities build mutual respect within a family, improve bonds, and enhance family-school relationships, while helping build resiliency to substance abuse.
Emotional Wellness Screenings will be an ongoing service available to all students. To participate, parents simply complete the Pediatric Screening Checklist and return it to school. Mental health partners score the screening and notify parents of results. This tool helps to identify children who may need further assessment or individual services.
Adventure Based Learning is a research-based after-school program providing structured, challenging activities that promote self-esteem, interpersonal trust, self-discipline, good judgment and decision-making. Participants will meet every Thursday for two hours for a six week session. A weekend outing will take place at least once during the six weeks.
AuSable Forks Schedule of activities
Keeseville Schedule of activities
Developmental Asset Building will be supported by Eastern Adirondack Health Care Network. This research-based program will focus on character traits and activities that help empower youth, and build self-esteem, community-mindedness, and resiliency. A school and community brainstorming session will be facilitated by EAHCN to determine which of the 40 Developmental Assets are already supported by existing activities and what additional activities will best serve the needs of the students and school community.
Mental Health Screenings will be provided if the Pediatric Screening Checklist indicates need for further assessment. An on-site mental health professional will provide a comprehensive assessment with a child and parent/guardian at no-cost.
On-Site Mental Health Clinics will provide individual support to students and their families. A clinician will spend one half day at Keeseville Elementary and one half day at AuSable Forks Elementary. Referrals may be made to off-site services as needed to promote optimal social and emotional growth. A case worker will also be available to assist the family as needed.
Family Resource Centers will be created in AuSable Forks and Keeseville elementary schools. In each family resource center there will be a 2-hour weekly parent/child play group for pre-school families. Before and after the play group, child development experts from the Child Care Coordinating Council will be available to support parents, help parents find appropriate resources in a lending library, and provide bi-monthly developmental screenings. Child Care Coordinating Council staff will be in AuSable Forks for half the day and in Keeseville for the other half.
Regional Parenting Classes will be provided by Child Care Coordinating Council. A 12-week session of “The Incredible Years” will be provided once a year in Clinton County. This program is designed to help parents of 3-5 year olds learn how to best support the needs of their pre-schoolers.
