Parent Resource Center
At Keeseville Elementary, the parent resource center is open for business. Parents are actively using the reading materials that were provided through our Safe Schools, Healthy Students Grant. The resource center is centrally located in the main hallway of the school for easy access. Parents are encouraged to sign materials out and return them at their convenience.
Family Fun Is Heading Your Way!
The KES PBIS team is excited to present family fun activity bags which were made possible with funding from our Safe Schools Healthy Students project. We were able to purchase tote bags that are packed with fun games and some parent resources for families to enjoy on a rotating basis. The goal of this project is to increase positive family interactions.
Here's how it works: After enjoying this bag for one week, a family will simply pack the items back into the bag and send it to school with their child. Families can even write us a quick note/comment in the Family Fun Journal to tell us about the fun you had together.
Everything They Touch Turns To Gold At Keeseville Elementary
June 2010
By: Wanda McQueen, SS/HS project administrator

Not only do the dustpans turn to gold at Keeseville for the classrooms that are well-kept, the school-wide events are top-notch as well. The KES Health Fair was anything but boring, as students and staff set aside an entire day to practice healthy choices and healthy activities. As you pulled into the parking lot, you couldn’t miss the chalk-painted walkway and huge inflatable obstacle course.
Third-graders said that exercise was the reason for all the outdoor activities, but for the students at KES it was all about having fun. Students shuffled by class through an extensive offering of activities including: bucket races, sponge relays, healthy scavenger hunts, sack races, and obstacle courses. Students even got to try their luck at sling shooting water balloons at their teachers, and sometimes their principal!
Of course, there were as many indoor activities as there were outdoor activities, and all students were recognized at the end of the day with a special presentation on the lawn. The wet, smiling faces gathered to receive awards for their hallway displays, walkway designs, and PBIS achievements. Of course, my favorite hallway display was the Magical Fruit Tree done by Mrs. D’Ascoli’s class. Not only did it remind me of a tropical forest; the students gave me a private performance to showcase their healthy choices song complete with choreography!
Hundreds of awards were handed out and the grand prize winner received a camping set complete with tent, chairs, and an outdoor fire pit for the student to enjoy with her who family. The student even received a weekend pass to a local campsite!
Wow, what a day. It might have represented a culmination of the healthy learning lessons students participated in over the course of the school year, but for the staff at KES, it was about acknowledging students for a job well done and letting them know they care.
