In the AuSable Valley Central School District, the focus of the Safe School Healthy Students project will be in the two elementary schools, AuSable Forks and Keeseville. The elementary schools will lead the district in the implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) (AFES PBIS Matrix) (Keeseville PBIS Matrix), a program designed to train faculty and staff to most effectively use positive behavior support.
This project will also provide the following in both schools: a substance abuse prevention educator one half day a week and three prevention programs; emotional wellness screenings; developmental asset building; a family resource center, which will include a parent lending library and a weekly play group for children aged birth to 5 years of age (AFES) (KES); regional parenting classes; safety and crisis response assessments; adventure based learning (AFES) (KES); an on-site mental health professional and case worker one half day a week; support for a student mentoring program; and support for a district-wide health fair.
For information on these programs please contact Pete Atchinson - 518-834-7432 - the AuSable Site Coordinator.
