ABL gets an A+ in Moriah
By: Meeghan Goralczyk, Site Coordinator
Adventure Based Learning was such as hit at Moriah School that every child in the program is interested in being a part of it next school year. While it is important to give students who haven’t yet participated an opportunity to be part of the program—and there are lots who are interested—we consider this is a “good problem” to have and will work as a team to determine which students will participate next year.
Some students are opening up to new opportunities after being a part of the group. Parents and teachers have commented that students who participated this year seem more confident and outgoing and are taking part in other youth activities for the first time. The program has been so successful that parents have also approached us about a summer program of Adventure Based Learning, something we will look into for summer 2011.
ABL has truly been an important piece of many of the students’ lives this year. The kids became a “family” this year and we are so happy that Safe Schools gave us the opportunity to share this program with our kids. Children went fishing, hiking, and caving for the first time. This program opened up the Adirondacks and the world for many of them. Thanks Scott [Friedman, group leader]!!
