Mental Health Services

This is a unique opportunity for students to participate in screenings, assessments, and clinic programs designed to improve their social and emotion health.  All elementary students will be offered emotional wellness screenings. Clinic services will be made available to students based on individual needs.  Services will be offered both on-site at each district and off-site.  Screenings, assessments, and clinic services will be available at no cost to students and their families.

Parents, clinicians, and school personnel work together to identify programs and services supported by the Communities of One Safe Schools/Healthy Students project that will best meet the needs of students and their families.  Student information is confidential and will not be shared without the written consent of the parent/guardian.

Emotional Wellness Screenings
All elementary children can participate in emotional wellness screenings.  Parents will receive the Pediatric Symptoms Checklist to complete at home and return to school.  An on-site mental health clinician will score the screening and notify the parent of the results.  If the results indicate the child may benefit from a more comprehensive assessment or individual services, the clinician and the parent will discuss the service options for the child.  No services will be provided to the child without the written permission of the parent/guardian.

Assessments
If the initial screening indicates a child may benefit from individual services, the on-site clinician and the parent will discuss the benefits of the child participating in a comprehensive assessment.  This assessment is completed by the clinician and can take place either on-site at the district or off-site to meet the family’s needs.  Results of this assessment are kept confidential and only shared if given permission by the parent.

Clinics
Clinics are offered both on-site at the districts and off-site to promote social and emotional health among children and their families.  All clinic services are based on individual needs.  Clinicians and parents work together to plan services that best meet the needs of the child.
